Area Roads Slippery With Sleet on Morning Commute

Rain is expected to continue through most of Jan. 18.

The sleet has turned to plain rain Tuesday morning and it is expected to continue through most of the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow was mostly cleared from the area's major roadways in the early morning hours Tuesday. But the roads were slushy and slick and there were patches of ice and snow making driving difficult. Vehicles were seen spitting a wintry mix residue onto the vehicles behind them.

The freezing rain had turned to just rain by about 8 a.m. Tuesday. However, leftover snow and sleet were building up on the roadways leaving a thin coating on the roads during rush hour.

Untreated roadways and sidewalks could be a concern for many commuters as the mix of freezing rain and snow will cause slippery road conditions. Travel delays are expected, and drivers are encouraged to drive with caution and make extra time for their commutes. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility at times. Remember to clear ice from your windshield wipers.
