Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Delco

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, following a tornado warning for the area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Delaware County. 

In addition to an earlier tornado warning, a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the NWS on Tuesday afternoon.

The NWS states that the thunderstorm is capable of producing "damaging winds in excess of 60 mph."

The thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

At 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, the NWS stated their doppler radio indicated a tornado heading northeast in the area at 25 mph.

According to the NWS, the safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. If you don't have a basement, the lowest floor of a building, an interior hallway or closet are also safe places. 

"Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows," states the NWS.
