Delaware Valley Collage Collaborative Displays Art at Martins Run

Works of collage made from an eclectic mix of materials will be showcased from December 3, 2013, to January 1, 2014, in the Martins Run Art Gallery, all part of the senior living community’s Spotlight Artist Series. The nine featured artists this month are all from the Delaware Valley Collage Collaborative; the women will deliver a PowerPoint presentation titled “Celebration of Collage/Mixed Media” at the opening of their exhibit on Sunday, December 8, at 7 pm. The public is invited to attend, beginning at 6:30 pm when refreshments will be served. To reserve a spot, contact Martins Run at 610.353.7660, ext. 254.

The Delaware Valley Collage Collaborative began in 2011 when four students of a collage class held at the Main Line Art Center joined together to encourage their artistic growth as well as to promote collage/mixed media as a vibrant art form. Since then, the group has more than doubled in size. The nine members whose work will be on display at Martins Run include: Arlene Solomon, Blanche Levitt Torphy, Candace Stoudt, Helene Levitt, Jill Province, Linnie Greenberg, Maxine Rosen, Sharon Wylie, and Virginia Conover.

Collage/mixed media is a form of creative expression that gives artists immense freedom to work with an infinite range of materials, from scraps of paper in varying textures and colors to photos, ribbons, leaves, and other finds that carry special significance to them.

The Spotlight Artist Series, which began in August, 2012, was created to bring in local artists from the surrounding community to the Martins Run community and to expose the residents, many of whom are artists themselves, to the talented works of these individuals through a rotating art display.
