Newtown Square Historical Society Saturday Tours

It’s that time – children getting bored and parents

are looking forward to back to school and the escape of these hot lazy days of

summer.  Relax and use this time as
an opportunity to visit two cool and amazing historical sites that are open to

visitors on Saturdays in during July through August 24th, The Paper Mill Museum and the Square Tavern.
After touring the Paper Mill house Museum (corner st. Davids & Paper Mill Road), travel a short distance north on Rt. 252 and take time to visit the Square Tavern and listen to tales of Benjamin West, perhaps America’s best known artist.  Listen to tales about our very own Robin Hood type character, Sandy Flash,  that lived in or frequented this historic building.  Children can guess which famous historic character has a road in Newtown Square named after them.  Note, both locations are air conditioned. The Newtown Square Historical Preservation Society opens the 1742 Square Tavern at Rt. 252 and Goshen Road, and the 1828 Paper Mill House and Museum, at St. David’s Road and paper Mill Road, each July through August 24th on Saturdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  For more information, and to verify openings on a particular date, please check our website at http://www.historicnewtownsquare.org/.
