Election 2012: The Final Stretch

Don't forget to vote this Tuesday, Nov. 6th. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Well here we are, the final stretch of the election season. I have to apologize for my absence here on Patch. Between work and campaigning, free time has been limited.

Throughout the entire election season we have heard over and over again from both sides of the political spectrum that “America is at a crossroads,” or, “This is the most important election in American history.” While many can agree with these two statements, now comes the serious part.

No, it's not who can display more signs, nor is it who has the best campaign commercial. It's not who has the most followers on Twitter, or “likes” on Facebook. No, my friends, this part does not involve the candidates, but you.

This coming Tuesday, Nov. 6th, Americans all over this great country will wake up, we will go to their neighborhood church, fire hall or township building and vote. We will take part in what is the most treasured of all gifts in the world. We will voice OUR opinion, we will cast OUR vote, and we will make OUR opinions known. The free world speaks, and the majority, no matter what side of the political spectrum, wins.

It’s no secret that when I go to vote on Tuesday, I will be voting for Mitt Romney and the straight Republican ticket. I believe that this country needs some real “hope” and “change.” I want an individual who has real-life business experience and respect for the private sector, an individual to turn around this failing and stagnate economy.  Being a recent college graduate, I am lucky that I have a job, but for individuals in my age group, 18-24, our unemployment number is double that of the national average.

I understand that the most common rebuttal that any supporter of the president makes is, “It was the republicans’ fault,” or, “He was handed this economy from Bush.” You are right, the president did inherit a rough situation, but after four years, I am tired of seeing a president who will not take responsibility for his own actions. This is Mr. Obama's economy now; his failed economic stimulus added more to the national deficit, not more jobs to the workforce.

Another reason I am voting for Mr. Romney is because I cannot sit back and watch my Catholic faith and beliefs be trampled over any longer by the Obama administration. The Health and Human Services mandate, established by Obamacare, forcing Catholic institutions to violate our conscious is also a clear violation of my church’s religious freedom.

In closing, I leave you all with this, four years ago then Senator Obama ran on the slogan of “hope” and “change.” This year his re-election slogan is “Forward.” Telling the American people at campaign stops that “we have come too far, to go back.” I agree with the president's slogan of “Forward.”

I think that if the American people knew how he was going to increase our national debt, hijack our healthcare system and have clear disrespect for religious institutions, he never would have won. So let's not think of the past four years, and instead vote for the president because Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Beyonce say so.
