NAACP, Booing For The Wrong Reasons

When President Obama took office, the African-American unemployment rate was 12.6%; today, its 14.4%. The NAACP booed the wrong person, for the wrong reasons.

Politicians give speeches all the time, especially during an election year. Some are interesting, some are great to listen to if you want to fall asleep and others, like the speech given by Gov. Mitt Romney to the NAACP on Wednesday, are right on message.

I watched Gov. Romney’s speech, not just the 25-30 second clips that are being played over and over again on TV showing him getting booed, and thought it was perfect. At the annual Civil Rights organizations convention, Gov. Romney gave his speech on what America would look like if he is elected president in November. A country where jobs are the number one priority and, of course, a nation where Obamacare is a thing of the past.

It is amusing that liberals, both in Congress and in the media, are slamming Gov. Romney for going to the NAACP and speaking out against, among other things, Obamacare!

Just as she always does, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), decided to add more fuel to a very unnecessary fire saying, “I think it was a calculated move on his part to get booed at the NAACP convention.”

Let’s face the truths: first, Gov. Romney is running for President of the United States, meaning he is going to be giving speeches all over this country, where individuals will not agree with everything that he says. Secondly, he mentioned Obamacare for what it is, a job killing piece of legislation. Lastly, Gov. Romney is not going to win the African-American vote, which in 2008 then Senator Barack Obama won by 95 percent. But what Gov. Romney did on Wednesday, is tell the African-American community some unwanted truths.

While the national un-employment stays at 8.2 percent, the unemployment rate for the African-American community, “ jumped from 13.6 percent to 14.4 percent from May to June,” according to NewsOne.com. Now, that's something to boo about! What’s even worse, as Breitbart editor-in-chief, Joel Pollak stated on Wednesday, “When President Obama took office four years ago, the African-American unemployment rate was 12.6 percent.” Where’s the “change” and “hope” now?

After doing my own research, I have finally figured out why Democrats were trying to make a Republican being booed by the NAACP such headlines. The truth, they did want us to hear the facts regarding the poor record of job creation President Obama has. Instead of working to create jobs for the past four years, the President has doubled our national debt and continues to attend high dollar campaign events held by A-list Hollywood stars.

This speech to the NAACP showed to many that Gov. Romney is ready to say and do what might not be popular to get America moving again. Knowing that the NAACP is extremely supportive of the President, Gov. Romany did not hide or change his remarks to pander to the audience. No matter the venue the message is clear, just as it was with the NAACP, Gov. Romney will make jobs his number one priority.

In closing, I end with the most sensible quote from any Democrat speaking on this issue, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.). When asked about Gov. Romney’s speech he said he disagreed with most of it but added this, “You know, they call the members of the NAACP African-Americans and the last word is Americans,” Cleaver said. “So they deserve to hear what the presidential candidates are going to say even if they are Republican. And so I give him an 'A' for that.”
