National Night Out: Win-Win For Residents, Police

BROOMALL–'s first ever on Tuesday evening was all in all a success.

Members from the local emergency services departments (Marple police, , and ) displayed more than a handful of vehicles where members of the community–both young and old–could tour the vehicle and equipment.

Approximately 100 members of the community came out for the event, which began at 5 p.m. and lasted until 8 p.m., including Marple officials and commissioners.

In addition, Delaware County's Major Incident Response Team vehicle was on display for the community, which was used during the , and two vehicles from Haverford Township's emergency services department.

One of the vehicles, according to Vic Berg, Haverford Township's Ambulance deputy chief, was previously used as a SEPTA bus until the township acquired it for $1. According to Berg, the long bus is used during major emergencies for firefighters and any emergency personnel in need of a medical attention or rehabilitation after taking out a major fire. Berg said the vehicle travels "almost anywhere."

Another member of the Haverford Township paramedics was Chief of Haverford EMS Jim McCans. McCans demonstrated what their cadaver dog–a dog that can detect decomposing human bodies–Stash could do.

Local businesses were also present, including , , tactical shop Rogue Elite–which just opened its retail store on Sussex Boulevard–and Street Smart, an organization dedicated to informing parents and children about bus, bike and pedestrian safety, offering other preventive measures and tips on seat belts and car seats.
