Sarah Murnaghan Continues to Recover

The 10-year-old Newtown Square girl with Cystic Fibrosis, who received a double lung transplant, continues her journey to recovery.

Sarah Murnaghan, the 10-year-old Newtown Square girl with Cystic Fibrosis who received a double lung transplant after a battle to be put on the adult transplant list, continues her long road to recovery.

Since her June 12 surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she received adult donor lungs, Sarah continued to be sedated for several days but was awake and nodding on Friday.

Janet Murnaghan, Sarah's mother, has been updating the public on Sarah's progress, on the Save Sarah Murnaghan Facebook page.

On Friday, June 22 Janet wrote: "Awake and nodding yes and no to questions. She is still intubated and frustrated that she can't talk."

On Wednesday, June 19 Janet wrote: "Sarah continues to improve, praise God!!!! One challenge we are having is my little fighter is fighting tremendous amounts of sedation. For complex reasons, we need her sedated right now. Yet to the doctors dismay she is opening her eyes and trying to communicate. I want her sedated too, but her "fight" makes me smile. My girl is still in there under all this "stuff" and physical pain, she has not quit."

On Monday, June 17 Janet wrote: "I definitely have the best FB friends. All the prayers and love are so encouraging. Sarah made a tiny step in the right direction, being able to back off some of her vent settings in terms of her O2 requirements. Sarah's x-rays improved a little today too. She is still fully sedated and critical. ...It's still baby steps but all in the right direction. Looking forward to the blessed day when I hear her little voice again....although wondering if her first words will be stop kissing me, because I pretty much do it non-stop."
