Episcopal Academy's Margaux Paolino '16 Makes U.S. Junior National Squad

The Episcopal Academy’s record-setting goal scorer Margaux Paolino ’16 has been selected to the U.S. junior national field hockey team, meaning that she will represent our country next month in Uruguay and then perhaps this summer in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Nanjing, China.

Paolino, a first-team All-Delco and All-Inter-Ac performer who set a school single-season field hockey record with 27 goals this past season, will compete for the U.S. team in a qualifying tournament in Montevideo, Uruguay, February 11-15. If the United States team finishes in one of the top two spots in next month’s qualifying tournament, then they will qualify to head to China this August.

“Margaux is an exceptional athlete and a wonderful teammate!” says Gina Buggy, EA’s field hockey coach and athletic director. “I am especially proud of her accomplishment in being selected to this developmental Olympic team. I think it is a great opportunity for her and I know she will have much to add to this select team.”

If the U.S. team qualifies for this summer’s World Youth Games, the matches in in Nanjing will use a Hockey 5 game format, a style of play that blends elements of both the indoor and outdoor field hockey games with some hints of ice hockey (i.e. the use of boards around the perimeter of the field) in order to increase scoring opportunities—a format that should suit the high-scoring Paolino perfectly.
