MNHS student Priyanga Selvakumar wins prestigious Intel Science Competition

The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is the nation's most prestigious pre-college science competition. Alumni of STS have made extraordinary contributions to science and hold more than 100 of the world's most coveted science and math honors, including the Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science. Annually, students entering the Intel STS compete for $1.25 million in awards. Only 300 students are announced as semifinalists each year. In 2014, there were 1,794 entrants representing 489 High Schools in 45 states, the District of Columbia and 7 overseas schools.

Priyanga Selvakumar, the only student from Pennsylvania to be selected, was recognized for her research: Nano-Formulated Quercetin: A Novel Therapy for Neuroblastoma by the Re-expression of RIZ1. Miss Selvakumar received a $1000 award for her outstanding research. In addition, Marple Newtown High School was also awarded $1000 for their support of Miss Selvakumar and to further excellence in science, math and/or engineering education.  MNHS Science teacher Mrs. Christine Roy was awarded the Teacher of Merit, Intel Science Talent Search 2014.
