Endorsed Republican Candidate for School Board-Leonard B. Altieri, III

Endorsed Republican Candidate for School Board-Leonard B. Altieri, III

My name is Leonard B. Altieri, III.  In February I was appointed to the Marple Newtown School Board and I am currently seeking election to a two-year term on the board. I believe that my diverse professional background has served our district well in my three months of service since my appointment, and I would like your vote to continue my work for an additional two more years.

Community service has always been a priority of mine.  I have been involved Newtown Township since High School and I believe that it is extremely important to give back. Currently I am a member in the Newtown Square Rotary and the Secretary of the Newtown Township Planning Commission.

I am a proud alumnus of the Marple Newtown School District (MNHS ’08). I am running for the Marple Newtown School Board because I want to give back to the district that has given me so much. I am passionate about public education. I am eager to be a part of a team that is continuing to improve the quality of education in Marple Newtown.

I am a graduate of West Chester University. I obtained a B. A. in Political Science and a minor in Latin American Studies. In 2010, then Governor Ed Rendell nominated me to serve on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). I was confirmed by the State Senate for a two-year term. The PASSHE Board is responsible for planning and coordinating the development and operation of the 14 “State Schools” which make up the PASSHE system. The Board establishes broad educational, fiscal and personnel policies, and oversees the efficient management of PASSHE.

Among other tasks, the Board appoints the chancellor and university presidents, approves new academic programs, sets tuition, coordinates and approves the annual PASSHE operating budget. While on the Board I was a member of the Administration, Finance and Facilities Committee, which, was responsible for creating and executing the systems $1.5 billion budget.

I am currently employed by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office where I am the County Bench Warrant Coordinator. In this capacity I oversee thousands of warrant’s from many sources. These sources are District Courts, Adult Probation & Parole, Juvenile Probation, Domestic Relations, Bail/Pre-Trial Services, Protection from Abuse, and any warrant issued by a Judge in the Court of Common Pleas.

It is my belief that being an alumni, having the experience of the PASSHE Board and being a sitting School Board member gives me a unique outlook on our district and the work that needs to be done. Personally, I feel that the success I have had in my professional life is directly linked to the education that I have received while I was a student in the Marple Newtown School District. If elected, I will work to continue the great tradition of learning and opportunity for the next generation of students.
