First President of Cardinal O'Hara Dies at 65

Bishop Joseph P. McFadden was a Philadelphia native who attended St. Joseph's University and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Bishop Joseph P. McFadden, the first president of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, has died at age 65.

McFadden was currently serving as a Tenth Bishop of Harrisburg. The Philadelphia native was a graduate of St. Joseph’s University and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood. 

McFadden was named President of Cardinal O’Hara by Cardinal Bevilacqua in 1993.

“During his tenure as President, the school’s enrollment increased from 1,540 students to 2,000 students and he helped to initiate the innovative computer 'Laptops for Learning' program in the school,” according to McFadden’s biography on the Harrisburg archdiocese website.
