From British Rock and Roll to SPCA Fundraiser and Chinese New Year Celebration

Patch has some ideas for you and your family for the weekend.

This upcoming weekend there’s a lot to do with your family and friends. You can help homeless animals at a fundraiser with live music. There’s family-friendly music on tap at the library and the theatre. Plus, it’s the Year of the Dragon and the annual Chinese New Year parade will run in Media.

Where/When:  , Sat., Jan. 21 at 11 a.m.

Why Go: It’s fun for the whole family. Held in the community room, the event will include crafts and games. No registration required.

Where/When: , Fri., Jan. 20, at 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Why Go: It’s a live music and dance show for the whole family. Proceeds will go to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition. The fundraiser and show is created by local resident, Dan Traynor, and his son, who are inspired by a cancer survivor. Special guest MC Steve Trevelise of WIP Radio will be on hand.

Pricing: $25

Where/When: Swarthmore United Methodist Church, 124 Park Ave., Swarthmore, Fri., Jan. 20, at 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 21, at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Two American women, a Park Avenue psychiatrist and an ambitious young writer travel to Bosnia to help women refugees confront their memories of war. Necessary Targets is a timely reminder of how America struggles to define its relationship to the rest of the world.

Pricing: General admission, $30; seniors, $25. Tickets can be purchased on their site here.

 

4. Gimme Shelter Concert Benefit for the Delaware County SPCA

Where When:  , Sat., Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.

Why Go: 100 percent of the proceeds goes to caring for the homeless, neglected animals at Delco SPCA. There will be two live bands, The Tappas and R3, plus 50/50 chances, games and prizes.

Pricing: $5

 

5. Chinese New Year Parade

Where/When: Starts at in Media, Sun., Jan. 22, at noon.

Why Go:  Media celebrates the “Year of the Dragon” with Philadelphia’s premiere “Lion Dancers” Hung Gar Kung Fu Academy.
