MN Class of 2010 Grad to Bike across United States to Benefit Affordable Housing

This summer, Temple University student Adam Fender, Class of 2014, and MNHS Class of 2010, is participating in Bike & Build, a national nonprofit that raises money and awareness for affordable housing. Along with 30 other young adults on the Providence to Seattle team, Adam will ride a bicycle across the United States, fundraising and advocating for the cause while stopping in numerous towns to volunteer building homes for families in need.

The journey will begin on June 6th, when Adam reports to Providence, RI. Over 10-11 weeks, the Prov. to Seattle team will pedal 3920 miles, an average of 70 per day, to Seattle, WA and the Pacific Ocean, arriving on August 15th. Along the way, the riders will volunteer on build days with 9 different affordable housing organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, and local nonprofits. Riders will build in towns like Groton, NY, Dayton, OH, Casper, WY, and Missoula, MT, among others. Adam is fundraising at least $4,500 to support the cause. In 2014, Bike & Build will grant over a half-million dollars to over hundreds of affordable housing nonprofits across the country.

“Cycling is something that I picked up in my time at Temple University. I’m so excited to be able to put a normal hobby to good use by serving people across the United States. It is an honor to have the opportunity to go in this journey.”
