Laura Wozniak - Candidate for Marple Newtown School Board

My name is Laura Wozniak and I would consider it a privilege to serve you as a member of the Marple Newtown School Board.

For more than 20 years, my husband Mike and I have been raising our five children in Newtown Square. Our oldest son and daughter are Marple Newtown graduates and our youngest daughter is an alumna of Cardinal O’Hara. Currently, we have a son who is a senior at Marple Newtown and our youngest son started kindergarten at Culbertson this fall. Having been immersed in Marple Newtown for nearly two decades, I can personally testify to the excellent education children receive in our district. As a Pennsylvania certified teacher, I know the importance of educating the whole child as well as meeting the diverse needs found in the classroom. I am keenly aware of the ever changing face of education. It is imperative that, in order for our community to continue to thrive, our school district is continually prepared for these changes. I have the education, experience, and motivation needed to help guide our school system through any challenges that arise now and in the future.

I have actively served the Marple Newtown community as a member of the Culbertson Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, as a softball coach for the Newtown Square Petticoat League, as a soccer coach for Marple Newtown Soccer Association, a religious education teacher at St. Anastasia’s School, and as a Cub Scout Den Leader. I am also a trained mentor for the Young Parent Support Network at the Center Foundation in Media.  In this role, I help teen mothers cultivate parenting, communication and problem solving skills. These young women leave the program as high school graduates with educational and career goals in place.

Additionally, for over fifteen years I have worked as an office manager.  I am adept at handling the arduous task of helping to create and balance a budget. I know how to make difficult decisions during challenging times, just as I understand the importance of fiscal accountability, personal responsibility, and strong organization. I also know the pressures and complexities that are involved in running a successful business. On a daily basis I make sure that deadlines are met, customers are satisfied and that business grows. My managerial expertise will ensure that the decisions I make as School Board Director are informed and fiscally responsible.

With your support, I will use my experience to ensure that the School Board develops an updated detailed strategic plan that focuses on empowering all students to succeed in life and contribute to society. I will also actively seek ways to foster open honest communication with the community about the school district. I believe that an open dialogue among all stakeholders will build mutual trust and respect, and foster collaborative ownership of our schools.

A superior education system is the best way to build a stronger community and increase property values.  Vote for me on November 5th and together we can ensure a bright future for our children and our community.
