Local Businesses and Patch Events -- Perfect Together

Thanks to Patch Events listing and to Vince's Barber Shop and Felice Hair Design, the Marple Newtown community was informed and could attend a wonderful festival and performance.

Although the information I provide in my posts are usually about local government issues, I am writing this post in appreciation for an event my son, daughter and I were able to attend yesterday at Vince’s Barber Shop at St. Albans Circle.

Since Marple Newtown Patch has become a resource for community news and events, I have made it a point on a weekly basis to see what events have been posted.

Last week, I noticed an event posted on Patch taking place on Sunday, April 21.  Vince’s Barber Shop and Felice Hair Design on St. Albans Circle were holding a Music Festival.  To some, this may have seemed an unexpected location for a music event.  Since my son has been a customer of the barber shop and we knew that in addition to his work as a barber, Vince’s son Louis was also an accomplished musician who has sound studios at their location, the advertised music festival appeared to be a wonderful community event sponsored by a terrific local business.  Our only question was how this community event was able to attract David Kim, the principal violinist of the Philadelphia Orchestra to their event.

We were fortunate to have the time to attend the festival’s master class where this question was answered. David Kim, the principal violinist for the Philadelphia Orchestra provided a Master Class to a packed audience.  This class was also a fundraiser for the Orchestra.  In an informative and entertaining presentation, Mr. Kim provided insight and practical advice to four students.

These students included an elementary student from Episcopal Academy, two violinists who attended the University of Delaware and a self-taught violinist who is a professional guitarist.   For the students participating in the class, no doubt the opportunity was at once unique and nerve-wracking.  The students were terrific.  The audience was enthralled and appreciative.

Mr. Kim also performed for the packed room.  His presentation followed by his brilliant performance was a treat for all who attended.  When he finished the class and offered his thanks to Vince for the invitation, our question was answered.  Seems Mr. Kim is also a client of the Barber Shop and like all those who patronize this local business, Mr. Kim has appreciated the wonderful service and relationships that this business has developed.

The relationships developed at this local business could not have been more apparent yesterday.  We want to thank Vince’s Barber Shop and Felice Hair Design for this event.  We offer special thanks to Mr. Kim for the gratitude he showed to this business and the additional lesson he offered by pointing out how important and valuable the small business community is to Newtown Square.
