Yesterday, I walked in to pick my daughter up at school for the last day. Teachers were dancing, kids were screaming and loud music was playing. All a celebration of the rites of summer.
Even for those of us who loved school, we all loved that final bell on the final day before break. We all know all to well that life moves quickly. I am watching my children grow before my eyes, celebrating anniversaries, sharing birthdays and, most of all, at a seemingly alarming rate.
I can remember a Shel Silverstein poem from when I was a child that I used to think of at the end of every summer at URJ Camp Harlam:

Here Comes
"Here comes summer,
Here comes summer,
Chirping robin, budding rose.
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer,
Gentle showers, summer clothes.
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer -
Whoosh-shiver-there it goes."

While summer officially started a few weeks ago, for most of us it starts now. But I am already thinking and planning for the fall. What am I going to do to make these summer months last? What do I want to accomplish? I encourage you to make a list. Find some things you have been putting off. My prayer for you, and for me, is that we don’t just count the days as they pass this summer but rather, make the days count.
Be safe and use a strong SPF!
