$17K in Jewelry, Electronics, Silverware Stolen in Burglary

A safe containing personal documents and even a child's piggy bank were stolen in the Broomall burglary, police say.

Thousands of dollars in electronics, jewelry, silverware and cash were stolen from a Broomall home on the 2700 block of Highland Avenue in a May 24 burglary, according to Marple Township Police.

The resident returned home and discovered a burglary when he noticed a laptop, iPad, two iPods and antique silverware missing from his house along with jewelry and a fire safe containing cash and personal documents, according to police.

The items stolen from the home were valued at more than $17,000, according to the police report.

Police located the burglar's entry point to the house through a crank out window that was off of a rear enclosed porch, according to police, the window may have been left open and the burglar put his hand though to operate the crank and open it fully.

Jewelry was taken from a master bedroom, according to police, and Tiffany boxes were emptied and a wedding ring was taken from on top of a dresser.

Ceramic piggy banks were emptied from a child’s bedroom, according to police.

Vehicle titles, birth certificates, social security cards, passports and cash were inside a fire safe that was taken from a master bedroom, according to police.

The burglars also entered the attic but nothing appeared to have been taken from there, according to police.

Some of the stolen items included:

  • Assorted gold and silver jewelry valued at $8,900
  • iPad mini valued at $400
  • Two iPods each valued at $130
  • One laptop valued at $800 and a second laptop valued at $600
  • Camera valued at $350
  • Gold-plated silverware valued at $1,200
  • White gold men's wedding ring valued at $1,500
  • About $3,000 in US currency
