2 Tires Fly Off Van on 476, One Hits Another Car

No injuries were reported.

BROOMALL–On Feb. 14 at approximately 8:34 p.m., a truck step van was traveling northbound on I-476 around the 5.9 mile marker in Marple Township when two of the van's tires flew off.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the van was in the right lane and another vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was in the left lane approximately one-car length behind the van.

At this point, the van lost both the driver's side front and rear tires–one tire went off the roadway to the left of the travel lanes and the other tire went into the left lane and struck the Corolla.

The tire struck the Corolla's passenger side light fixture and fender area. Both the drivers of the van and Corolla were able to drive onto the shoulder. No injuries were report, according to police.

The driver of the van, identified as a 56-year-old man from Broomall, was cited for a tire equipment and traction surface violation.
