246 Marple Police Calls in April

Marple Township Police responded to one residential burglary in April, police say.

Marple Township Police responded to 246 calls for service in April, Marple Police Chief Tom Murray said at the May 6 workshop meeting.

Below is a breakdown of some of those police calls.

  • 1 Burglary
  • 32 Thefts
  • 12 Vandalism reports
  • 77 Motor vehicle crashes

Comparing the first four months of 2013 to the first four months of 2012, Murray said, thefts are down 21 percent and vandalism is down 25 percent.

"This is certainly a good thing," Murray said. "I'm pleased with the numbers."

He said he believes part of the decline in thefts is that residents are locking their car doors and not giving people an opportunity to break in to vehicles.

In April, Marple Township had one burglary, Murray said, and for the first three months of the year, the township saw 20 burglaries.

"We had an arrest in the early part of March, and I think the people who we arrested were responsible for burglarizing the homes in our township. So that's good news we're down to just one burglary in April," he said.
