3 Men Ditch Cab Fare, Police Say

Also, a woman's credit card information was fraudulently used in a separate incident, police say.

The following information was supplied by Newtown Township Police. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

 

Theft of Service—3200 block of Hilltop Road and West Chester Pike in Newtown Square at about 2:10 a.m. on April 14. Police spoke with a taxi driver who works for All City Taxi out of Philadelphia and said he had picked up three men from 2nd and Market in Philadelphia, according to the report. The taxi driver told police he let one man out somewhere along West Chester Pike in Broomall with the expectation that the other two men would pay the cab fare, according to the report. The two men had the driver stop at the intersection of West Chester Pike and Valley View Lane, where they opened the doors and ran toward Surrey Lane without paying, according to the report. The taxi driver attempted to follow them but they began running through properties of Surrey Hills, according to the report. Police checked the area but did not locate the men. The total theft of service was about $50, according to the report.

Theft—100 block of North Line Road in Newtown Square at about 10 a.m. on April 17. The victim reported that overnight someone entered his unlocked Toyota Highlander, which was parked in front of his residence, and rummaged through the glove box and center console, according to the report. The victim had already left for work so the vehicle was not on location and he could not report if anything was missing from the vehicle, according to the report.

Fraud—3600 block Waynesfield Drive in Newtown Square at about 11:04 a.m. on April 15. A resident reported that her credit card information had been stolen, according to the report. She told police that a duplicate of her Wells-Fargo debit card had been made and used to purchase gas in New York, according to the report. She reported that she was not in New York and never authorized anyone to use her card, according to the report. She had contact Wells Fargo and they closed her account and credited back her loss.

Trespassing—4200 block of Florida Avenue in Newtown Square at about 4:27 p.m. on April 14. Police responded for a burglary in progress and a resident reported observing three teenage men and a woman exiting a property behind him, according to the report. The people were last seen running down Campus Boulevard, according to the report. Police investigated the abandoned property and discovered a side window busted out but no one inside, according to the report. It appeared the teens were using the property to hang out as police discovered a small little set up with chairs located in the front room of the property, according to the report. It was unknown if any items were removed from the property.
