Alert: Springton Pointe Thefts From Vehicles, Home From Jan. 2-3

Newtown Township Police Department issued out an advisory alerting residents of recent thefts that occurred overnight between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 in the Springton Pointe neighborhood.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The released an advisory on Wednesday evening alerting residents about recent thefts from vehicles and homes around the Springton Pointe neighborhood in Newtown Square.

According to Lt. Chris Lunn, police investigated a theft from a vehicle on Springton Pointe Drive that had occurred sometime overnight between Monday, Jan. 2, and Tuesday, Jan. 3.

"The victim reported that a pair of designer sunglasses valued at $400 was stolen from his unlocked car which was parked in the driveway," stated Lunn in the advisory.

On Tuesday, police also investigated a home burglary on Sleepy Hollow Drive.  According to Lunn, the victim reported two laptop computers were stolen from inside the home. 

Further investigation revealed that an exterior door to the home was left unlocked, which would have allowed easy entrance and access to the computers, said Lunn. In addition, the home alarm system was not in use at the time of the burglary.

In early December, announced the arrest of around town. But at a Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Newtown Police Chief announced the two juveniles–one 15-year-old male from Newtown Square, one 15-year-old female from Broomall–admitted to committing hundreds of thefts from vehicles.

Newtown's Springton Pointe neighborhood was also a previous target for thefts from vehicles during Mischief Night on Oct. 30, 2011. From Oct. 30 to Oct. 31, there were around the Springton Pointe and Larchmont neighborhoods.

The thefts have been part of a rampant number of thefts from vehicles that have been occurring in the summer around the Marple Newtown area, and .

The police department is seeking the public's help in regards to these incidents and if anyone has seen or heard anyone/anything suspicious overnight from Jan. 2 to Jan. 3 in the Springton Pointe neighborhood.

Additionally, police are asking those who may have also been the victim of a theft between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 to contact the police department at 610-356-0602.
