UPDATE: French Fry Fryer Fire Disrupts Business at AMC Marple 10

The theatre is expected to open by Monday, Jan. 7.

SPRINGFIELD–Update, Jan. 6, 1 p.m.: 

Broomall, Rose Tree, Springfield, Brookline, Bon Air, and Swarthmore fire departments responded to a first-alarm fire at the AMC Marple 10 movie theatre at 9:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. 

According to Broomall Fire Public Information Officer Tony Cavarocchi, the fire was in the deep fryer machine used to cooking french fries. The fire was contained to the unit, said Cavarocchi.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire, checked for extension and removed the deep fry machine from the building," said Cavarocchi through an email on Sunday. "The fire caused the lobby and one theater to fill with smoke. Firefighters used power fans to remove the smoke."

According to Cavarocchi, there was no damage to the building and no injuries to employees or firefighters. The time of service was approximately 45 minutes.

Original report on Jan. 5:

A fire that occurred on Friday morning has temporarily caused AMC Marple 10 to close its doors to moviegoers on Saturday, Jan. 5, and Sunday, Jan. 7.

The fire had reportedly occurred in a movie theatre fryer. An employee at the theatre told Marple Newtown Patch on Saturday morning that the theatre will be closed to the public all day Saturday and possibly Sunday as well.

The employee stated the theatre would most likely be open by Monday, latest.
