Arrests Made in Multiple Old Navy Retail Thefts

The store saw five retail thefts over a two week period, police say.

Police investigated multiple retail thefts at Old Navy on the 400 S. State Rd in Springfield recently.

On April 30, at about 5:19 p.m., the store's loss prevention officer detained a 23-year-old Philadelphia woman in connection with a retail theft, according to the report. The woman was observed by the store employees, placing $157.18 worth of items into her purse and continuing to walk past all points of sale without any attempt to pay for the items, according to the report. The woman was processed and released.

On May 1, at about 3:15 p.m., a loss prevention officer told police that a woman had taken five or six items of clothing off a rack and walked out of the store without paying for them, according to the report. The woman was last seen getting into a maroon, older-model Buick and drove off, according to the report. The woman was described as either a light skin black or very tan white female with long black hair, in her late 20s and wearing skin-tight pink pants and she was heavy set with a crop top shirt and her belly was hanging out, according to the report.

On May 8 at about 11:35 a.m., a black woman in her late 20s, wearing a black leather jacket, light pink shirt, blue jeans and a large black pocketbook was suspected of taken about $80 worth of children’s clothing, according to the report. The woman left the store and ran toward 5 Below store, according to the report. Police arrived and an employee stated the woman had been in 5 Below but had fled to the area of McKee Building, according to the report. Police could not locate the woman as she may have been picked up by a car or got on a bus, according to the report.

Hours later, on May 8 at about 5:21 p.m., police responded to the store for a retail theft in progress. Loss prevention employees, observed a woman placing items of children’s clothing into her purse after removing the tags, according to the report. The woman was followed around the store while police waited outside, according to the report. The 30-year-old Drexel Hill woman was further observed paying for a child’s jacket while the other items were concealed in her purse and she left the store without paying for the concealed items, according to the report. The woman was stopped by police after she left the store and the items in her purse were recovered, according to the report. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and release.

And on May 9 at about 3:21 p.m., a loss prevention officer reported to police that a woman with short hair in a silver metallic jacket had just left the store after concealing several shirts in a bag, according to the report. The woman left the store after passing all points of sale and walked toward 5 Below, according to the report.

Loss prevention believed the 45-year-old Philadelphia woman was working in conjunction with another woman who did not steal anything, according to the report. The loss prevention officer spotted the Philadelphia woman walking in the parking lot and police stopped her and had her open her bag to show she had nothing in there, according to the report. Her silver jacket was inside the bag. The loss prevention officer believed the woman had dumped the shirts somewhere, according to the report. The Philadelphia woman was arrested and charged with retail theft, according to the report.
