Blotter: $8K Taken From Car, BMX Bikes Stolen, More

BROOMALL–On July 13 at approximately 7:52 a.m., received a report of a theft from a vehicle on the 100 block of Beechtree Drive. The car owner told police that his truck was broken into. In addition, the car owner told police the car was not locked and had $8,000 inside the vehicle, according to the report. The owner told police he believed the last person who had broken into the truck was the same person who broke into the truck this time, according to the report. Police are further investigating this incident.

BMX Bikes Stolen While Watching Movie

On July 20 at approximately 9:45 p.m., police received a report from two juveniles that their BMX bikes had been stolen from the back of the movie theaters in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center, while they were watching a 7:30 p.m. movie. According to the report, the bikes were reportedly locked with bike chains.

With Children in Tow, Women Steals Kids' Clothing

On July 24 at approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported retail theft. Upon arrival, police met with the store’s loss prevention officer who had a woman in custody for concealing children’s clothing valued at $36.99. According to the report, the store officer saw the woman concealing several pieces of children’s clothing and select several other items, which she paid for at the register. The woman then exited the store without paying for the concealed items. According to the report, the woman had an infant and a toddler with her while shopping. The woman was cited for retail theft.

Unknown Person Cashes Federal Refund Check at Illinois Walmart

On July 19 at approximately 9:43 a.m., a woman reported that her federal refund check was stolen and cashed. The woman told police she filed her taxes in March and hadn’t received the check through the end of May, according to the report. After calling the IRS, the woman told police it was discovered that the check was cashed with her signature. According to the report, it had appeared the check was cashed at a Walmart in Illinois. In addition, the $5,472 check was allegedly cashed without ID. Police are further investigating this incident.

$400 and Wallet Lost But Not Found

On July 17 at approximately 3:20 p.m., a woman reported a missing wallet. According to the report, the woman was shopping at the on July 16th and left the store 20 minutes after shopping. The woman then dropped her shopping cart out front at a cart housing area and did not realize until about seven hours later that she left her wallet in the car. The woman told police she went back to Walmart to check the lost and found area but with no luck. Credit cards and $400 was in the wallet, according to the report.

Fraudulent Credit Card Charges Made at Local Businesses

On July 16 at approximately 12:53 p.m., police received a report from a Broomall resident that his Capital One credit card was stolen sometime before May 24. According to the report, almost $300 was charged to the card locally at stores such as the Broomall Wawa, McDonald’s and Hair Cuttery. The card has been canceled since then.
