Blotter: Attempted and Actual Home Burglaries

BROOMALL–On Aug 7 at approximately 2:42 p.m., responded to a discovered burglary on the 2500 block of Highland Avenue. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who told police he had arrived home from work the day before at 2 p.m. and entered his locked home only to discover a 5-gallon water bottle that was in the corner of the master bedroom missing.

According to the report, the gallon was three-quarters full and weighed about 150 pounds holding approximately $1,500 in loose change. In addition, a 0.72 point-white diamond ring was discovered missing along with a few silver dollars.

The homeowners keep a spare key hidden in the back of the home near the patio area, which is known by their 20-year-old son, who is away at college, and his former friends, according to the report. Police believe there may have been a connection with the son’s former friends who were later told that they had a “falling out" with the son, according to the report.

It was also later discovered that someone had used the master bedroom bathroom without flushing the toilet said police in the report. In addition, police believe the burglary appeared to have occurred between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2.

According to the report, a witness told police she observed an older silver/champagne colored four-door sedan parked on the wrong side of Highland Avenue facing Cedar Grove Road at the time. When the woman looked back about 10 minutes later, the car was gone. Police are investigating this incident.

Attempted Burglary on Hilldale Rd.

On Aug. 6 at approximately 9:56 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of Hilldale Road for an attempted burglary discovered. Upon arrival, police spoke with the homeowner who told police she left her home that morning at 9 a.m. and returned home at approximately 1 p.m. The woman stated that her husband had returned home a short time later and noticed a window unit air conditioner on the first floor had been moved slightly. According to the report, it was apparent that someone had attempted to remove the screwed-in air conditioner unit but was unsuccessful. Two screens were also discovered to be removed from the first-floor windows. According to the report, no entry into the home was made and nothing was reported to be missing.

Another Attempted Burglary on Highland Ave.

On Aug. 7 at approximately 11:52 a.m., police responded to the 2600 block of Highland Avenue for a reported burglary attempt. Upon arrival, police spoke to the homeowner who told police that on Friday, Aug. 3, at noon, she discovered the porch slider door ajar and the screen open. According to the woman, she noticed that the door latch had been pulled away from the frame. No entry was gained and the door was repaired, according to the report. Police are further investigating this incident.
