Blotter: DUI Arrest, Woman Violates Protection From Abuse, iPad Stolen

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On July 29 at approximately 1:40 a.m., was traveling south on N. Newtown Street Road/Rt. 252 toward the intersection of West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 when police observed a car traveling eastbound on Rt. 3 at a high rate of speed, according to the report. When police attempted to catch up with the vehicle, police observed the vehicle had switched lanes, in an attempt to pass another vehicle, without using a required turn signal, according to the report. Police were able to catch up with the vehicle and issue a traffic stop at Rt. 3 and Media Line Rd. While speaking with the driver, a 24-year-old Thornton resident, police detected a strong odor of alcohol. According to the report, the man told police he had “just a few glasses of wine” at a bar in West Chester. Police conducted field sobriety tests in which he failed two of the three tests. A portable breathalyzer test was performed in which a 0.173 percent was recorded. He was arrested on charges of DUI and turning movements and required signals.

Drexel Hill Woman Violates Protection From Abuse Order

On July 28 at approximately 7 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Pine St. for a report of a protection from abuse order violation. According to the report, police received information that a woman was at the complainant’s home in violation of an active protection order. The man told police that he heard a car horn in his driveway and looked through his fence from the rear yard of his home to see the 63-year-old woman, of Drexel Hill, walking towards his door, according to the report. Prior to police arrival, the woman had gotten back into her car and drove from the scene.

iPad Stolen From Melmark Home

On July 26 at approximately 5:15 p.m., police received a theft report from a complainant at the Melmark home on 2600 Wayland Road in Berwyn. According to the report, the complainant told police that sometime between 4 p.m. the day before and noon that day, someone had stolen an Apple iPad from the Melmark complex. According to the report, the iPad was kept in a secure room, although the cleaning crew did have access to the room. A cleaner was seen on video surveillance entering and exiting the room but not seen carrying or having possession of the missing iPad, according to the report. In addition, the cleaner was questioned about the missing iPad and told police he had left the room when he saw a rat. The cleaner has since been fired from the cleaning service for poor performance, according to the report.
