Blotter: Keg of Beer Found on Golf Course; Truck Window Smashed by Cinder Blocks, More

The following information has been provided by the Newtown Township Police Department. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Aug. 22 at approximately 7:38 p.m., responded to Fairview Avenue in the Florida Park neighborhood for a report of an intoxicated man stumbling around the area. Upon arrival, police spoke with a complainant who told police he saw a man stumbling in between the houses and was possibly in a white van. Police were able to locate a white van with a Florida Avenue woman inside the vehicle and saw a man staggering across a front lawn. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the 27-year-old Coatesville man, and attempted to administer a portable breathalyzer test but the man refused to provide a sufficient breath sample, according to the report. Another man with the intoxicated Coatesville man told police that the man was his best friend and believes he took something else other than alcohol. According to the report, both men were reportedly cutting grass in the neighborhood when the intoxicated man disapperared. According to the report, the best friend assumed the man was at the woman in the van’s home on Florida Avenue. The best friend told police he observed the man come back highly intoxicated and highly agitated. The man was arrested for public drunkeness and similar misconduct.

Car Keyed in SAP Parking Lot 

On Aug. 21 at approximately 5:40 p.m., police responded to in the Ellis Preserve for a reported criminal mischief incident. According to the report, the victim stated she had parked her vehicle in the basement garage area of SAP Americas on that day and observed a long scratch on her car. According to the report, an unknown person ran some type of key or other object down the driver’s side door causing a long scratch in the paint.

Car Keyed at Carriage House Apartments Lot 

On Aug. 21 at approximately 10:12 p.m., police received a report about a criminal mischief incident at the Carriage House Apartments parking lot on 20 Bishop Hollow Road. According to the report, the victim showed police a long scratch on the driver’s side door done by a key or other sharp object which was done overnight while parked in the parking lot of her residence.

Cinder Blocks Thrown at Contractor's Truck

On Aug. 27 at approximately 7:23 a.m., police responded to the parking lot area for a criminal mischief incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with the complainant who showed police his company’s 1984 box truck parked unoccupied to the rear of the high school. He stated sometime between Friday, Aug. 24, and Monday, Aug. 27, someone threw several cinder blocks through the front windshield and attempted to break the passenger side window of the truck, damaging the passenger side door, according to the report. This was not the first vandalism incident or theft that has taken place with this particular contractor at the high school, police stated in the report. The man told police he may be targeted considering he is the only non-union contractor on the job during the renovations project at the school. Police observed several other vehicles parked in the lot at the time that were untouched. It was reported that there were also several thefts from this particular truck over the past few months while the other contractors’ equipment were left untouched.

Benches Damaged, Keg of Beer Found on Golf Course 

On Aug. 29 at approximately 7:16 a.m., police responded to on 3600 Saint Davids Road for a criminal mischief incident. Upon arrival, police spoke with the superintendent of the golf club who stated sometime overnight five cast iron/wood benches that were established on and around the third hole and tee box were damaged to a degree which rendered them incapable of use, according to the report. In addition, employees discovered a keg of Natural Light beer in the sand bunker located on the third hole of the golf course. The superintendent stated it appeared the individuals had entered the golf course by way of the fourth hole, leaving behind footprints in the early morning dew. According to the report, the cast iron portion of the benches date back 70 years. The total estimated value of the five damaged benches is $5,000.
