Blotter: Thanksgiving Guest Steals Jewelry From Hosts' Home

BROOMALL–On Nov. 24 at approximately 6:10 p.m., Marple police responded to the 100 block of Davis Avenue for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke to the homeowners who told police that they hosted family and friends at their home on Thanksgiving night.

Between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. a family friend visited with his mother. Around 10:30 p.m., after they left the home, the homeowner discovered two items of jewelry missing from a drawer in her ground-floor bedroom, according to the report.

A 14-karat gold rope chain with a diamond lover’s knot (valued at approximately $500) and a pair of rose gold earrings (valued at approximately $100) were reported missing, according to the report.

According to the report, the homeowners told police they noticed the family friend to be unusually animated and talkative that night and noticed he had to use the bathroom frequently which was located in the ground-floor bedroom.

The homeowners told police they were aware that the man had a substance abuse problem, according to the report. When police called the man, the man admitted to the theft.

The homeowners later discovered the man had also committed thefts at other family members’ homes in Ridley, according to the report.
