Blotter: Woman Attempts to Assault Police, Thefts

The following information was provided by the Newtown Township Police Department. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Aug. 21 at approximately 3:55 p.m., responded to the 300 block of French Road in Newtown Square for a domestic situation involving a stepmother and a stepdaughter.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the stepmother who told police she wanted her stepdaughter removed from the home. The 65-year-old woman told police she went up to her stepdaughter's room where a confrontation had taken place in which the stepdaughter had allegedly pulled the woman's hair, according to the report.

Police then spoke with the stepdaughter outside in which she told police she had just come back from the hospital due to an asthma attack when her stepmother started arguing with her. According to the report, the stepmother had allegedly attempted to bite the stepdaughter's legs and in attempt to block her, the woman ended up biting the stepdaughter's hand. Police noticed a fresh bite mark on the stepdaughter's hand and the hand appeared to be swollen and red, according to the report. The stepdaughter denied attacking her stepmother and stated it was an ongoing situation with the woman.

When police spoke with the stepmother about the story given by the stepdaughter, acoording to the report, the stepmother began to change her story from pulling her hair to pulling her hands. According to the report, the stepmother stated, "When someone grabs your hands, you have to bite." When police began to speak to the woman on domestic violence laws, police were able to stop the woman when she attempted to grab a phone. According to the report, the woman began swinging her arms at police and attempted to kick and twist out of the grasp of police while trying to be handcuffed. 

The woman was arrested on charges of Simple Assault – Attempt, Harassment by Physical Contact; and Resisting Arrest.

Saw, Leaf Blowers, Weed Whacker Stolen From Church Shed

On  Aug. 20 at approximately 7:35 p.m., police responded to on 2701 Gradyville Rd. for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police met with the reverent and complainant at the storage sheds on the church parking lot. According to the incident report, a 10-inch table saw (valued at approximately $150), a Ryobi leaf blower (valued at approximately $150), a Stihl leaf blower (valued at approximately $200), and a Stihl weed whacker (valued at approximately $275) were taken from two sheds. The theft occurred between 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, and 7 p.m. Aug. 20, according to the report. Police are further investigating this incident.

Steel Door Stolen From Construction Site 

On Aug. 22 at approximately 9:45 a.m., police responded to the construction site located on 40 Bishop Hollow Road for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the employee of the business who told police that sometime over the weekend, an unknown person stole a solid, steel door from the construction site area. The theft was discovered on Monday morning. According to the employee, the door was left unsecure, outside and next to a garbage dumpster. No other items were reported missing. The approximate value of the door is $400.
