Broomall Fire Co. Seeks New Fire House

The new facility is estimated to cost about $7 million.

The Broomall Fire Co. hopes to build a new fire house that is more updated and could last the company and community 50 years.

Broomall Fire Co. President Jim Capuzzi presented a basic plan, which includes a two-story building, to the Marple Township Commissioners recently.

"It's been over 10 years that we've been looking at different options," Capuzzi said. "And I think we've come up with a really good solution for us and for the township."

The fire house would be built on the existing 10 North Malin Road property and increase to 24,000 square feet, over the current 10,000 square feet. They would not keep any of the existing building, he said, and the new building would be parallel with Malin Road.

Capuzzi estimates the cost of the facility to be roughly $7 million, based on square footage, and hopes to break ground in about two years.

The fire company plans to apply for grant money and conduct fundraisers to fund the project, he said.

"It's ambitious but doable," Capuzzi said.

Currently, the fire house has one toilet whereas the proposed new plan would have six, and five showers are also proposed. The current building has no showers.

"I think it will be a really nice building and an asset to the community," he said.

The building design is still being considered and energy conservation will be included in the plan.
