Burglar Distracts 80-Year-Old Woman While Another Steals Jewelry and Cash From Within Home

Newtown Police reported a distracted home burglary incident on Sunday, June 10, in Newtown Square.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– issued out an alert on Monday warning residents to report any suspicious persons or activities that they may be aware of in their neighborhood to police.

On Sunday, July 10, Newtown police investigated a distraction burglary incident that occurred at a residence along West Chester Pike/Route 3. 

According to police, the 80-year-old resident answered a knock at her front door from a Hispanic male who spoke in broken English. The man had apparently told her he was there to talk to her about cleaning up debris in the rear of her property, said police.

The man then proceeded to bring her outside to distract her, while another unknown person entered the woman's home and stole cash and jewelry.  

The woman told police that the Hispanic man spoke on a Bluetooth device to another person while they were outside. After the man had left, the woman went back into her home only to discover her jewelry and cash missing.

In a separate incident, police said they also investigated another theft that same day of a purse and wallet stolen from an unlocked car in the Wyola section of the township sometime overnight. According to police, cash, credit cards and identification cards were also stolen. 

Police are urging resident to to keep an eye on your neighbors and to report any suspicious activities immediately to the police department via 911.
