Car Catches Fire at Car Wash

Nobody was hurt, but car is in bad shape after catching fire inside car wash on Route 3/W. Chester Pike

A Broomall man is without a car, but unhurt after his sedan caught fire inside the Express Auto Wash on West Chester Pike.  There is no indication that the car wash had anything to do with the car's engine catching fire.

Mark Anderson told Patch he had rolled up his windows and turned on the air conditioning to go through the car wash. As he was going through the car wash he saw what he thought was steam but then smelled smoke.  When he came out of the car wash Anderson said he opened the hood only to see flames. He slammed down the hood and asked a car wash employee to call the fire department.

Broomall Fire Co. Engine 3 responded and quickly put out the fire. There were no injuries. Marple Police closed the right eastbound sholder lane of West Chester Pike for a brief time around 2:30p.m. Friday. The car was re-opened at about 2:45 as Anderson's as car was being towed away.
