A home on Florida Avenue was the scene of a home fire on Monday afternoon.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–A home on the 4400 block of Florida Avenue in Newtown Square was the scene of a house fire around 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7.

The homeowner was inside when the fire occurred at her home on 4416 Florida Avenue but no injuries were reported from the fire, said  Chief Doug Simpson.

The source of the fire appeared to be in the second floor bathroom's exhaust ceiling fan. Simpson said the homeowner described to fire officials that the fan appeared to be sparking upon discovering the smoking fan.

The fire grew to a moderate dwelling fire, characterized Simpson, in which fire officials had to "pull the ceiling down from the home to get to the source." The fire was contained within the attic and was put out within 20 minutes of its discovery.

A portion of Florida Avenue was closed to traffic from Tuxedo Avenue to the midblock of Florida Avenue.
