'Discarded Smoking Material' Causes Bed Fire

No injuries were reported during a small fire reported on Cedar Grove Road in Broomall on Sept. 13.

BROOMALL–On Tuesday evening, just before 8:30 p.m., Broomall firefighters responded to the 700 block of Cedar Grove Road for a reported fire.

Fire Chief Carl Drake, of ., stated that the family was on the first floor of their two-story home on 712 Cedar Grove Road when the fire occurred.

According to Drake, the family could not reach the second floor as heavy smoke filled the second floor. The fire was contained within the bedroom and the source of the fire came from the bed, said Drake.

"The fire was mostly contained within that bed," said Drake. The fire from the bed then created heavy smoke that filled the second floor of the home.

Drake said the cause of the fire "appeared to be from discarded smoking material." No injuries were reported. The fire was contained within approximately 15 minutes. A portion of Cedar Grove Road was closed to traffic during this time. From Parke Lane to Sproul Road, Broomall Fire Police directed traffic to alternate routes.
