Duo Charged, Suspected in Numerous Burglaries, Police Say

Two men were arrested, charged and arraigned in connection with multiple felony burglary counts, Marple Township Police say.

Daniel Eberly, 27, of Claymont, Del. and Gregory Karamedas, 68, of Wilmington, Del. were each charged with 10 counts of burglary, according to police.

Marple Township Police Lt. Matthew Richter said Eberly and Karamedas are suspected to be involved with multiple burglaries in Delaware, Montgomery, and Chester counties and additional charges are likely.

Along with Marple Township, nearby Newtown, Upper Providence and Middletown townships have all seen a string of burglaries recently.

At about 4 p.m. on Monday, a homeowner pulled into the driveway on N. Sproul Road and heard banging coming from either the rear of the home or inside the home and noticed the garage door was damaged, Richter said. The homeowner did not go inside the house and called police immediately.

At about the same time, Marple Police Officer Peter Baylor, who was off-duty at the time, was driving on Sproul Road near Arden Road and noticed a champagne-colored Ford Focus parked on the road, Richter said.

Police had been shown a photo of a Ford Focus that had been a suspected vehicle used in multiple burglaries in Marple Township and other area municipalities, Richter said.

"(Baylor) did a good job with that," Richter said. "He had the wherewith-all and he remembered seeing the picture of the car."

Baylor called on-duty police who stopped the vehicle after Karamedas, the driver, attempted to flee, Richter said.

In plain view, inside the vehicle, was a pillowcase filled with jewelry and a short-range walkie talkie, Richter said.

Richter alleged that during these burglaries, Karamedas would wait in the vehicle while Eberly would knock on the doors with a notebook in hand. If someone answered the door, he pretended he had the wrong address but if no one answered he would bang the door in, Richter alleged.

While police had Karamedas stopped, Eberly soon was seen walking down the street and attempted to flee before police arrested him, Richter said.

Richter said Eberly is currently cooperating with police and informing them on other burglaries in neighboring municipalities and counties.

Eberly and Karamedas are likely to face additional burglary charges, Richter said.
