Employee Recovers Stolen Items, Thief's Phone in Retail Theft, Police Say

A store employee was not only able to recover stolen items in an attempted retail theft but also the thief's cell phone, police say.

Five pairs of boots were recovered in an attempted retail theft at Marshall’s Department Store at 400 S. State Road in Springfield, according to Marple Township Police.

Store employees attempted to stop two black women on Oct. 1 at about 9:39 a.m., when they left the store without paying for five pairs of women’s boots, according to police.

One of the women struck and scratched one of the employees as he attempted to grab the merchandise, according to police, and both women then fled the area in a green Ford Taurus with New Jersey tags.

The employee did recover the stolen boots which had aluminum foil covering the security tags, according to police.

The employee also recovered a Samsung Galaxy cell phone belonging to one of the women and told police the staff had been investigating these two women for ongoing thefts at the Marple and Deptford, N.J. stores, according to police.

The phone was given to police as evidence.
