Fire-Related Incidents Linked to Dehumidifiers

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township Fire Marshall Karl Keehn reminds residents to check their dehumidifiers to make sure that they are not on the recall list.

According to Keehn, the fire company has responded to several fires related dehumidifiers in the last several years in Newtown Township.

Keehn said there are many dehumidifiers that have been recalledy by their manufacturers due to an increased fire risk.

Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced in September 2011, a recall on LG Electronics Tianjin Appliance Co.'s Goldstar and Comfort-Aire dehumidifiers.

In January 2011, GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Ltd. recalled its GE and Professional Series brand dehumidifiers.

In December 2009, Home Depot recalled about 2,000 Hampton Bay dehumidifiers.
