Firefigthers Respond to Garage Fire in Marple

The family at 2586 Radcliffe Road in Broomall were safely evacuated.

BROOMALL–Broomall firefighters responded to a garage fire at approximately 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night at a home on 2586 Radcliffe Road in Broomall.

According to Tom Murray, first assistant fire chief of the . and chief, stated that no injuries were reported during the fire.

"What appeared to be a family of four was cooking dinner at the time when the fire occurred," said Murray. But the family was safely evacuated when the fire was discovered.

The fire, which was contained in the garage, had crept up the walls of the garage toward the second floor of the home, according to Murray. Murray said firefighters were able to open the walls on the second floor to take out the fire. The fire was contained within 20 to 25 minutes, said Murray.

According to Murray, the cause of the fire appeared to be "electrical in nature." During the fire, Murray said residual fire appeared to be coming from an electrical panel. PECO was called to the scene to kill the power, said Murray.

In addition to the Broomall Fire Co., the , , and Manoa Fire Co. responded to the fire. The Garretford-Drexel Hill Fire Co.'s Rapid Intervention Team were called on standby.
