Home Burglarized While Residents, Dog Sleep, Police Say

A Broomall home was robbed while a man, woman and dog slept inside, police say.

A woman awoke to find that her home at been burglarized while she slept, according to Marple Township Police. 

A resident of the 2600 block of Oriole Rd. in Broomall told police that she was asleep on the second floor at about 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 and heard a noise that she believed was her wrought iron railing shaking, according to police, and about 15 or 30 minutes later, she heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the house.

The woman's husband was sleeping in a first floor room at the time and a 100-pound retriever was asleep next to the man at the time, according to police.

When the woman went downstairs at about 7 a.m. she noticed the door to the basement was slightly ajar and this door is normally closed, according to police, and she noticed her purse in the basement of the house on a stool near the basement door when she had last seen it the night before on the dining room floor.

The basement door leading to the outside was also left open, according to police.

The woman checked her purse and determined that about $125 in cash was missing, according to police.

Police found damage to the trim of the basement door indicating that the door was forced open.

The door to the garage was also left opened and inside the garage there was a Snap-On toolbox with drawers left open but it was unclear at the time if anything was stolen from the toolbox, according to police.
