Home Goods Employee Steals $100 from Register

The Philadelphia woman told police she stole the money to buy Christmas gifts for her son, police say.

A Home Goods employee was arrested and charged with stealing from the register, according to Marple Township Police. 

The Loss Prevention staff at Home Goods in Lawrence Park Shopping Center in Broomall investigated a $100 shortage from a cash register, according to police.

While reviewing video surveillance, store security observed the money being stolen from the register by a 23-year-old employee, according to police. 

The Philadelphia woman had called out of work for her last two shifts but had arrived at the store on Dec. 27 to pick up her paycheck, according to police, store security interviewed the woman and she allegedly admitted to having stolen $100 from the register while she was working.

The woman provided a written statement and agreed to pay the store back, according to police.

The woman told police that she stole the money to buy Christmas gifts for her son, according to police.

She had no prior arrests, was transported to police headquarters, processed and released pending a summons to be mailed. 

She was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, according to court documents.
