July Police Reports: Burglaries a 'Huge Concern' in Marple, Emergency Calls Jump to 866 in Newtown

Marple Police: Burglaries Are 'Huge Concern'

Chief Tom Murray had an alarming revelation for residents at a earlier this month.

According to Murray, there are 22 burglaries for the 2011 year so far, whereas in 2010 there were only a total of 17.

"Burglaries are a huge concern," said Murray. "They are becoming commonplace throughout the county."

Murray reminded residents to be aware of their surroundings and to be alert for any suspicious persons or activities that they may notice.

"I would just ask the residents to pay very close attention to their properties. Let your neighbors know to be on the look-out," said Murray.

Emergency Calls Spike to 866 In Newtown For July

Chief Dennis Anderson also recently presented the Board of Supervisors and the public a brief overview of the incidents reported for the month of July.

According to Anderson, a total of 866 emergency calls–an increase of –were answered by Newtown police.

The category for the highest number of calls received remained the same as in June for medical emergencies. There were 94 medical emergencies reported last month while there were 91 in June.

Another high number of calls made were for township ordinance alarms, a total of 90, 70 traffic citations and related traffice enforcement incidents, 66 calls for checks on business buildings, and 32 motor vehicle accidents.

In addition, according to the monthly log, there were 24 suspicious incidents or person reported, 16 domestic disturbance incidents, and 27 fire calls.
