Minors Involved in 41 Thefts From Cars Arrested Again

Marple Police Chief Tom Murray announced the two juveniles who were arrested last December for 41 thefts from vehicles were recently arrested again.

BROOMALL–The two minors involved in a rash of thefts from vehicles last year were, once again, arrested, announced Chief Tom Murray at a recent commissioners work session meeting.

"I'll say it again–the biggest thefts we have are retail theft, which is pretty steady, and thefts from vehicles. Thefts from vehicles are a national nuisance," said Murray.

Last December, Murray announced the two juveniles–a 15-year-old female from Marple Township and a 15-year-old male from –were that occurred around both Marple and Newtown townships.

Murray said the two minors were "put through the system" and released, only to be arrested again for breaking into more vehicles. One of the individuals have been sent to serve at the Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center in Lima.

But, according to Murray, the one minor did not display any remorse for their involvement in the crimes.

"The detectives told me when they made the arrest, the person showed absolutely no remorse. It was no big deal to them." – Tom Murray, Marple Police chief

With one serving in the detention center, Murray said he is hopeful that the thefts from cars would decrease but said the crime was a "chronic problem."

"It's happening throughout Delaware County, Chester County, and the bottom line is–I keep saying this–it's easy to prevent this," said Murray.

Murray continued to urge residents to take preventive measures of the crime by locking their cars.

"If you're going to leave money or valuables in your car and leave your car unlocked, all someone has to do is walk down the street and pull on the door handle. If the car is open, they help themselves," explained Murray. "If the car is locked, they move on. So, moral of the story is lock your cars. Don't become a victim. You can help yourself by simply locking your car."
