Letters Stolen from Marple Newtown High School Sign

Currently, the main entrance to the high school reads, " arple ewtown High S hool," after someone stole letters from the sign.

Newtown Township Police and Marple Newtown School District administration are investigating the theft of letters taken from the Marple Newtown High School main entrance sign.

The letters, M, N and C were discovered missing on Saturday morning by the high school staff, according to Newtown Township Police.

The individual, black letters, sit across the overhang at the main entrance on 120 Media Line Road and were newly installed during the $59 million construction project.

The total cost of the damage was estimated to be about $500, according to Newtown Police, and the district is looking into the cost to replace them.

District Superintendent Merle Horowitz said the Marple Newtown Board of School Directors approved a $1,000 reward at Tuesday night's board meeting for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the theft.

The letters were still in place at about 5 p.m. on Friday, according to the Delaware County Daily Times
