Lightning Strikes Home on Rhoads Avenue in Newtown Square

A home on the corner of Rhoads Avenue and Ridgefield Road was struck by lightning in Thursday morning's electrical storm, confirmed police.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–A home built in 1949 on Rhoads Avenue and Ridgefield Road withstood the electrical storm that brew on Thursday morning in , despite getting struck by lightning.

According to Lt. Chris Lunn of , the main structure of the home–located at 3517 Rhoads Avenue–was not damaged but its chimney had suffered the most damage, which was directly hit by lightning.

"The chimney got struck and the lightning damaged some other areas of the home," said Lunn, who estimated the incident had occurred some time between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The lightning had gone through the chimney, knocking out one of the upper windows of the home and parts of the front door.

"It traveled through the chimeny and into the attic and blew out some of the front door and front window," said Lunn.

Nobody was home at the time of incident and no injuries were reported. Police received the call about two hours after the incident had occurred from a resident and responded to the scene. PECO was able to shut off the power of the home.

The home, a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom, ranch-style home, is currently listed on the market for $339,900.
