Police Blotter: Man Robs Lemonade Stand and More

Jaguar Hood Emblem Swiped

On July 24 at 1:04 p.m., police received report that the hood emblem of a Jaguar sports car was stolen off of the vehicle while its owner was at work. The theft tool place at the Home Depot on 700 Reed Road in Broomall. The victim reported to police that juveniles loiter in the parking lot during the evening.

Teenager Throws Firecrackers Out Car Window

On July 25 at 12:51 a.m., police cited a teenager for throwing firecrackers out of his car window. On South New Ardmore Road, police witnessed Ryan Duffy, 18, throw a pack of firecrackers out of the passenger window of a Ford Contour. After being pulled over, the young man admitted to throwing the firecrackers and handed over several other packs he had stashed in the glove box. He was charged with violating a township noise ordinance.

Burglary on Second Avenue

On July 25 at 12:57 p.m., police received report of a burglary on the 200 block of Second Avenue in Broomall. The victim told police that four laptops, an iPod Touch, and a jar of loose coins were stolen. A large amount of cash and checks were left in the bedroom dresser drawer however. Though the victim was unsure if his house was locked or unlocked at the time of the crime, police observed an open downstairs window in the rear of the residence.

Rehab Facility Robbed

On July 29 at 12:18 p.m., police received report of a theft from Broomall Rehab at 50 North Malin Road in Broomall. The cook at the facility told police he witnessed the passengers of a tan van, two white males and one white female with a large tattoo on her right shoulder, pulling items out of the maintenance shed dumpster. The cook yelled at the group, and they pulled away, but not before taking a 3/4 horsepower motor and some other items that were sitting outside of the shed.

Car Broken Into on Patricia Drive

On July 31 at 8:20 a.m., police received report of a theft from a truck that was parked on the 2300 block of Patricia Drive in Broomall. The owner reported that he found the truck that morning with the drivers door sitting open and a GPS unit, $150 in cash, an iPod, three Visa cards, and two prepaid $100 Giant gift cards missing. The owner reported hearing his dogs barking late the previous evening.

Burglary on Harmill Road

On August 1 at 10:50 a.m., police received report of the burglary of a home on the 100 block of Harmil Road in Broomall. Upon arriving at the scene, police learned that the crime happened when the home owners were food shopping for 90 minutes earlier that morning and that $200 in cash and numerous pieces of jewelry had been stolen. The burglar appeared to have gained access by pushing an air-conditioning unit through the bedroom window. A canvass of the neighborhood produced nothing conclusive.

Lemonade Stand Stolen From

On August 1 at 2:24 p.m., police received report that someone had robbed a lemonade stand on North New Ardmore Avenue in Broomall. At noon that day, a man in a red Mustang pulled up to the stand, pushed the proprietor into the bushes, and stole a blue solo cup containing four dollars, before taking off. The victim didn't call the police immediately because of the paltry sum stolen.

Hit and Run Foiled

On August 3 at 11:55 p.m., police received report of a hit and run on West Chester Pike and Lawrence Road in Haverford. The victim, in the car with his wife and three young children, followed the perpetrator up Anthony Avenue before writing down the license plate number and calling police and meeting them in Broomall. Police later found the offending vehicle parked on Lori Lane, unoccupied, then found the owner, George Santello, inside his father's residence. Santello was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of a crime.
