Marple Police Sgt. Colgan, Krewson Receive Commendation

Several Marple Township police officers were honored at a township meeting on Monday.

Marple Police Chief Tom Murray presented the officers with the 2012 awards for outstanding police work.

Look for these officer awards to be posted over the next several weeks.

Sergeant Tony Colgan and Turnkey Robert Krewson received a Written Commendation for Efficient Police Work.

The award reads as follows:

Please be advised that your name was submitted to the Police Department Honor Board, for consideration for your police action on June 27, 2012.

While on duty during the overnight shift you were advised by the dispatcher of a problem with a prisoner in a cell. The prisoner had taken the blanket in the cell and was attempting to hang himself from the cell bars. Sergeant Colgan was in his office and immediately reacted, getting the cell key and proceeding to the cell to intervene. Once at the cell Sgt. Colgan found the man lying face down under the cot, with the blanket tied around his neck. He was immediately moved from under the cot and the blanket was removed from his neck.

An ambulance was dispatched and the man taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center for treatment and for a mental evaluation. As a result of your actions the subject was prevented from his attempt to commit suicide and he received the necessary treatment at the hospital.

Therefore, on recommendation of the Board, I take this opportunity to formally commend and congratulate you for your prompt, efficient work and sound judgment in support of the actions described here.

Your actions were within the best traditions of the police service.

Therefore, it is directed that this commendation, become a permanent part of your personnel service record with the Marple Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Police Department.
