How long have you been with the Broomall Fire Co.?

A little over 10 years.

What do you like about your job?

Because there’s never a dull moment. There’s always something going on.

What do you dislike about your job?

The frustration of having to justify the fire department’s existence all the time. The local people in town don’t know we’re a volunteer service. People think we’re a career and getting paid for it.

What inspired you to become a firefighter?

I guess about 33 years ago when I was in the service, I moved about a block away from the fire house in Deptford, NJ. And I ended signing up and have been serving since.

What do you like about the Marple Newtown area?

I grew up here, first of all. The area’s nice and I’m used to it.

What do you want the general public to know about the Broomall Fire Co.?

We save the township a lot of money–it saves the township about $5 million a year and keeps my taxes down as a local resident because we’re all volunteer.
