Name: Tony Colgan
How long have you been with the Marple Police Department?
I just had my 19th anniversary here.
What do you like about your job?
I like being able to help people. I also like not doing the same thing every time—every call is different. I also like being outside and not having to sit at a desk.
What do you dislike about your job?
Meeting people at their worst—when they are victims of crime, sick or injured.
What inspired you to become a police officer?
My parents instilled in me that you need to give back and help others—either in your profession or through volunteer work. Although no one in my family was a police officer, my parents always did volunteer work. I just thought that by becoming a police officer, it was a way to help people and do different things (not tied to a desk).
What do you like about the Marple Newtown area?
For the most part, the people are nice. This area is in a good location–not too far from Philly, the Jersey Shore and the Poconos.
What do you want the general public to know about the Marple Police Department?
As a whole, we’re a well educated group. Everyone does their best 24/7 to meet the needs of the community.
