Movie Theater Robbed, Police Say

A man, wearing a hoodie and sunglasses, robbed the theater, police say.

Marple Township Police are investigating a robbery at the AMC 10 Movie Theater at 400 S. State Road in Springfield.

A white man, described to be about 6-foot, 4-inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, and wearing jeans, a brown hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and thin gloves, entered the theater at about 10:08 p.m. on June 9 and took cash from the cash drawer, according to Marple Police.

An employee who takes tickets at the entrance told police she saw the man as he entered, with his hood pulled over his head and realized something wasn’t right and stepped backward away from the man, according to police.

The man turned and went in to the box office where another employee was working at the cash drawer, according to police.

That employee told police that he was busy at the window and didn’t see the man approaching from behind, before the man said to the employee, "This is exactly what it looks like, don’t move," according to police.

The robber pulled on a lower door directly beneath the cash drawer, which usually also contains cash but did not have any cash in it at that time, according to police.

Then, the man opened the cash drawer and took cash from the drawer, according to police.

The man then walked out of the theater, according to police.

The theater's manager told police that they had just done a cash pick up from that cash drawer, so he was unclear how much money had been taken, according to police.

Marple Police, including K-9 units and police from surrounding districts, searched the area for the robber but he was not found.
